Rebecca Romero – NAKED! NUDE!!! BARE!!!

When a female cyclist gets naked, it’s obviously going to get some attention. You either get sad, fat, balding male cyclists on forums giving it the same old tired comments like “phwoarrr I wish I was the saddle on that bike” and “I’d let her ride me naked” etc. or you get some miserable fucker who clearly opposes the fact that women should do whatever the fuck they want to do. No-one moaned when Lance Armstrong posed naked on a bike, no-one questioned whether it was morally wrong or degrading. But as soon as Victoria Pendleton did it, a certain blog writer (whose blog seems to have disappeared) and the readers start giving it all this “blah blah blah female athletes shouldn’t get naked, it’s degrading, it’s offensive, I’m crying, I’m going to tell my mother, this just shouldn’t be allowed, it’s not fair, naked women are ruining society, waaah mummy”. As if they have some sort of duty to defend women from people who want them to pose naked, or, to defend the sport of cycling from the threat of degradation by naked women). Of course, pictures of naked women, is completely unacceptable. I was morally outraged when I saw Victoria naked, I mean, women should always be covered up, otherwise it’s distasteful isn’t it? Erm, no.

Well, now Rebecca Romero has struck a similar pose as part of a sports drink ad campaign. Certain bloggers and cycling sites have highlighted this. Another naked female cyclist… first Vicky and now that Rebecca, oh my god, who next?! The world’s going crazy. BUT, they conveniently forgot to mention the other two athletes – both male – who got naked for the same ad campaign.

These pictures (of Victoria and Rebecca) aren’t pornographic, they aren’t particularly sexy, exciting or revealing, and they aren’t in any way offensive or distasteful. So how come it’s such a big piece of news when a woman poses nude, but no-one bats an eyelid when a bloke does it? Is female nudity still that much of a taboo to some people?

Anyway, never mind all that bollocks.  This it’s what’s going to happen: MESSENGER OF DOOM WILL BE POSING NAKED NEXT WEEK as a tribute to all the naked athletes out there. A mark of solidarity. That’s right, people. You’ll get to see MESSENGER OF DOOM NAKED on his bicycle! Watch this space.
