From Bike Snob NYC.
I laughed so hard that snot bubbles came out of my nose.
In a public library.
And he has some things to say about brakeless fixies:
“I suppose some people think riding without a brake in traffic is somehow daring. But it’s not… riding without a brake doesn’t say, “I’m hardcore.” It says, “I’m afraid of exploring the full performance potential of my bicycle.”
(no offence Thom :-D)
This guy definately has explored the full potential of his bicycle: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/1567410/Man-who-had-sex-with-bike-in-court.html
Anyone who thinks brakeless IS daring obviously hasn’t been riding fixed for very long.
fly my pretties fly!!!
Hey Thom. I actually rode into work with no front brake on Thursday. I thought it was pretty daring. There weren’t any steep hills to go down so it was OK. Wouldn’t do it all the time but it feels pretty good. Just push pedals forwards to go, and backwards to stop. Simple!
I think the only way I would ride with no front brake is if I had a coaster brake on the back… The one I had to ride in Amsterdam would have been so cool if it was as light as my bike…
THATS SICK…ITS A BIKE FOR CHRISTS SAKE. EW
That is really old news – I didnt post anything about it on here because it was everywhere. Anyway – he was doing it in the privacy of his hostel room, so what’s the problem? I can’t believe he has been put on the sex offenders register for this. It shows just what a joke the so-called justice system is.
Brakes – yeh, 1 is good for me too. this weekend been experimenting with a new guinea pig special ‘palm brake lever’ (need to think of something catchier than that). It’s fashioned out of some existing bike parts and basically looks like a fag lighter stuck in the end of my drop bar’s right hand end plug bit… works ok too, as rode home and back over the weekend to L-Spa. Needs a little refinement mind, but aids faster downhills without the bike going into resonant frequency! Sounds shit I know but looks quite minimal and keeps my bars tidy. Also it’s in a better place than the ‘trad’ stem lever… for emergencies.
