Helmets suck

December 23, 2006

I seem to have been lulled into a false sense of security by this lid. I am no longer scared of crashing. I need to get back the fear of being killed, which is what helps to keep me alert and sensible on the road. This is difficult because I can’t help feeling ’safe’ when I have a lid on. Obviously it’s not going to save me from being run over by a drunk driver or crushed by a lorry, but you know, reasonable precaution and all that. Although I’ll be wearing it all the time on the road, I hope I never have to put it to use.

  1. “Bicycle riders have long harbored the suspicion that wearing a helmet made them more likely to be involved in an accident, and that’s exactly what Ian Walker, a researcher at the University of Bath, decided to study.”
